Company background

Berner is a Finnish, growing and internationalising family business founded in 1883, whose high-quality domestic and international brands are an integral part of Finnish everyday life.

Their story began in 1883 with the import of herring when the Norwegian Sören Berner arrived in Helsinki to investigate the city’s population of 40,000 inhabitants. He decided to start a business in Finland by bringing herring directly from the fishing place in Norway’s Stavanger to Helsinki.

Berner has a long tradition of responsible operating methods, and responsibility is also strongly embodied in the core of everything they do, i.e. defending tomorrow.
